Sen. Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump both declared during the 2016 election that the system is rigged. But their ideas of what constitutes rigging are different. We agree with Bernie's concerns about the system, so we are paying attention to election integrity (fraudulent electronic vote counting), gerrymandering, voter suppression, attacks on the Voting Rights Act, Supreme Court decisions that reduce or eliminate limits on campaign contributions/expenditures, "dark money" and the influence of the electoral college.

Take this action now while the Oregon legislature is between sessions. Use the text of this post card to write to Sen President Peter Courtney that you want him not to block a vote during the 2019 legislative session on National Popular Vote. Mail to Sen Peter Courtney, President of the Oregon Senate 900 Court St. NE, S-201, Salem, Oregon 97301 For added measure, mail a copy of this to your Oregon state senator and representative, letting them know that you want them to vote YES in favor of a National Popular Vote. |

Donald Trump did not win the presidency. Hillary Cinton won the popular vote by almost 3 million votes. Donald is now the president because he won the most electoral college votes.
Our way to change this so that we never get an undemocratic result like this again is for a group of states with a majority of electoral colleges votes to approve the National Popular Vote Agreement. In Oregon that agreement is bill number HB2927. It has already been approved by the House and is now in the Senate Rules Committee.
We just received word for Sen Burdick, Chair of the committee, does not intend to schedule this for a vote. If it is not scheduled, it is dead.
Contact Sen Burdick and demand that the
bill (HR2927) be scheduled for a vote.
Senate Majority Leader Ginny Burdick, Democrat - District 18 – Portland

Use the following messaging to put INTENSE pressure on Burdick to pass HB 2927 out of Rules and to the Senate floor:
a. Tell her to pass the bill cleanly and allow legislators to decide just as the Constitution states and following the same process as our west coast neighbors (California and Hawaii) and all other states that have joined NPVIC.
b. Tell her you do not support NPV as a referral to the people for the reasons stated below (click on the blue link for more detailed arguments):

b. Tell her you do not support NPV as a referral to the people for the reasons stated below (click on the blue link for more detailed arguments):
- Our current system of awarding electoral votes was not decided by referral nor was any other system in the country decided this way. It has always been a decision of the state legislature as stated in the Constitution.
- A referral would allow well-funded opposition groups, likely from outside Oregon, to come in and confuse the issue—just like Measure 97.
- Supporting NPV groups don’t have the money to run a ballot initiative and fight against the opposition. This will kill the bill in Oregon and possibly nationally.
- If one of the six Democratic trifectas can’t pass NPV, this movement will have lost serious ground nationally, and this will be the fault of the Oregon Democrats.
