Sen. Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump both declared during the 2016 election that the system is rigged. But their ideas of what constitutes rigging are different. We agree with Bernie's concerns about the system, so we are paying attention to election integrity (fraudulent electronic vote counting), gerrymandering, voter suppression, attacks on the Voting Rights Act, Supreme Court decisions that reduce or eliminate limits on campaign contributions/expenditures, "dark money" and the influence of the electoral college.

In Oregon....
Oregon is one of four states with no effective limits on political contributions and expenditures. We say no effective limits because Oregonians did enact strict limits with their approval of ballot initiative 47 in 2006; however, all Secretaries of State since have refused to enforce those limits, claiming that the state's free speech provisions, which are claimed to be stronger than those of other states, would be violated by enforcement. Because of the lack of enforcement of these limits, Oregon has the nation's most expensive elections.
The 2019 Oregon state legislature has referred to the Nov 2020 a measure that would amend the Oregon state constitution to allow limits on campaign contributions - SJR18.
Read SJR18 here.
Contact the Alliance for Democracy - Oregon to get involved in the campaign to get this enacted by the voters. It will take all our combined efforts.
