How You Can Help!

Contact your state representative or senator. If they have town hall meetings, go and give voice to your support for IRV. Express your support for the Local Option. Ask them to co-sponsor the bill in the next legislative session. The new bill will be sponsored by Rep. Peter Buckley (D, Ashland) and Rep. Ben Cannon (D, Portland) and hopefully others.

But you don't have to wait for a town hall meeting. Their contact information is available here.

In addition to contacting state representatives or senators, call your local city or county councilperson and/or mayor. Here's what to ask them:

Explain that you support a (city/county/special service districts) right to use Instant Runoff Voting.

Find out if they know anything about IRV. If not, spend a few minutes explaining it to them. Offer to send them information (contact the Alliance for Democracy at davidafd (at)msn.com for informational literature).

If they are supportive of a local option to use IRV, ask if

*they will write or sign a letter as an elected official to the Oregon legislature supporting local option IRV;
*if we can list their name on our literature or on the website as supporting local option IRV;
*if they would go to Salem when the Oregon legislature has IRV hearings and testify in support.

Then let us know the results of your conversation.
