State of the Union
President
Obama delivers his State of the Union address and advocates for the US
Korea Free Trade Agreement stating that it will "support" 70,000
American jobs.
Public Citizen responsed with this Guide
to NAFTA Style Korea Trade Deal, Jobs and the State of the Union
just prior to his address.
NEWS ALERT
12-3-10: The New York Times reports
that agreement has been reached on a side agreement to the Korea Free
Trade Agreement regarding quotas on cars, setting the stage for the
introduction of the agreement to Congress.
President Bush negotiated the Agreement, signed it
in June of 2007. It has sat first in his pocket and now in President
Obama's pocket, waiting for the right time and conditions to be
presented to Congress.
Now in late 2010, steam is building to present it
to Congress. But first the two sides must come to agreement on two
vexing issues - automobiles and beef. Even if those issues are
resolved, proponents of democracy will not be satisfied.
